Alternative Manchester Tours

I run occasional walking tours looking at the alternative side of Manchester. I am not a Blue Badge holder so the tours are informal but informative, and the only northern tours to feature in Telegraph Travel's Incredible Street Art Tours. In 2019 I was an official tour guide for Manchester International Festival.

My aim is to promote honest tourism which means discussing issues as well as celebrating the positives (this is also known as anti-tourism). The tour I most regularly run is The Modern History of the Northern Quarter and I use public art as the theme to tell the story of changes to the area, from success to dereliction and back again, since the 1970s. It delves into gentrification, private vs public space, community groups, homelessness, drug use, and preservation and loss of heritage assets.

Recently featured in national press as one of the top things in the UK to do with your weekend. You can read a lovely review here at Almost Ginger.
